I love me some old Porsches. I’ve been looking for an early 911 to work on and drive around town but every example I come up with is over $40k. So I’m stuck with just dreaming for the time being.

Anyway, I want to build one much like Singer does, except with some race-y modifications. I’ve heard them called “Outlaws”, “Hotrods”, and most recently “R Gruppe”. Anyone heard of these things? Other pics appreciated!

How early is “early”? You should be able to find a 911 classic in some state of existence for $25k.

The 1st gen cars can be found anywhere north of $50k minimum in good condition; the most pristine examples fetch more than $100k at times. The earlier the car, the more expensive it will be usually. You can find 2nd gen(impact bumper 911s) for under $25k, but the ‘74-77 cars will be cheapest between $10-20k, SCs will be about $20-30k, and 3.2 Carreras will be about $25-35k; this all depends on their conditions though.

I meant 911 classic as any 911 made up to the 964 since they mostly look the same. The cheap ones are out there, but damn are they not in good condition.

964s you’ll seldom see for under $25k. You’re right though, the cheap ones and barn finds are out there, but god knows how much you’ll end up spending to get it to where you want to be, and you’ll be wondering if it was worth the hassle to have not gotten a good conditioned one instead. :p

Exactly right. I’m looking for anything pre-1975 and haven’t found a decent driver for under $40,000. I don’t hate the idea of getting a 912 (around $20,000) and tooling around with it but I just like the idea of a 911 better.
